Five Acres High School Named Attendance and Behaviour Hub Lead

Five Acres High School is delighted to announce that it has been selected as one of the lead schools in the Department for Education’s (DfE) newly launched Behaviour and Attendance RISE (Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence) Hub programme.

As part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust, Five Acres High School will serve as a hub for supporting other schools to improve attendance and behaviour. The school will share its proven strategies, systems, and approaches, reflecting its strong track record in fostering a positive school culture, encouraging high levels of engagement, and reducing persistent absence.

The RISE hubs form part of a national initiative to address attendance and behaviour challenges across England. The latest announcement introduces 36 new hubs, bringing the total number of lead schools to 57.

“We are delighted and honoured to be selected as a lead school,” said Simon Phelps, Headteacher. “This role recognises the hard work of our staff, students, and families. More importantly, it gives us the opportunity to share what works and to help other schools build environments where every child can attend regularly, behave well, and thrive.”

Through its role as a RISE hub, Five Acres will work closely with partner schools through events, peer mentoring, and workshops. By supporting other schools to strengthen their approaches, the school aims to play a key part in the national effort to ensure every child is in school, engaged, and ready to learn.

Improving behaviour and attendance is about more than academic progress - it is central to pupils’ well-being, aspirations, and long-term opportunities. Research consistently shows that strong attendance is linked to higher future earnings, and that positive behaviour cultures help children feel safe, supported, and ready to achieve.
