It is a sheer honour to be Headteacher of Five Acres High School, a school with incredible standards and a warm heart. The school has been on a transformational journey of improvement, and our excellent GCSE results this year place us in the top 5% of schools nationally. Our simple aim at Five Acres High School is that our students will have a better chance of success than if they went anywhere else. We want them to be both academically successful and also grow into wonderful young people.

It is Friday - what a fantastic first week of virtual schooling. We know there are some teething issues, which we are working through as quick as we can, but we have been so impressed with the hard work and commitment of our students. Well done!! A special well done also needs to go to our amazing teachers for their hard work this week!!
Today's topic for well being - routines: Make your bed - this sets your day off to a good start and nothing better than getting into a freshly made bed at the end of the day. Get dressed - This will help you feel more productive and less in a rut.Do your hair / make up / Male grooming - Even when we are not going anywhere this can help us to feel more "normal" in a very chaotic times it can be a relaxing thing to do. Get some fresh air - Fresh air will help you feel less "stuck" or "cooped up". Getting outside in your garden would be the best idea,but even standing at your window will have the same benefits. Stay connected - Even though we can't visit family and friends at the moment, make sure you stay connected. A good way is to video chat online through facetime, zoom, skype or other similar apps. If you do not have access to any of these, even a phone call so you can hear a familiar, friendly voice at the other end of the line. This will help you and others feel less isolated and alone. Unplug - Everyone everywhere is talking about this virus. Turn off your devices, take a break away from the News and social media.You will still want to be informed, but do this at a regular time each day, and then try to leave it,so that you don't feel overloaded. Lots of people that I know, try and do this an hour before their evening meal so that they can all hear the same information at the same time, discuss it together as a family and then enjoy the rest of the evening together, doing something fun. Have fun - Do something creative and fun indoors. Get out those dusty board games, Jigsaw puzzles, read books, watch an old favourite movie, have a game of indoor scavenger hunt. Getting creative with old and new ideas is a great way to keep your mind active, keep your spirits up and relax. Exercise - if you are struggling for creative ideas there are lots available on Instagram such as workouts, yoga, Pilates and couple workouts with two people.
We understand that it is a different way of working for lots of our students, but lots of time and effort has been taken by teachers to set high quality work. Please can we encourage our students/children to do the following: - read the instructions slowly and carefully and then follow them exactly as they say - refer to the 'how to' guide sheet that was in your pack given or sent out last week - persevere and keep going with attempting the work
Today's coping strategy - Sleep!!! Getting enough sleep is essential for your mental well being. If you have trouble falling asleep, try the steps below to see if that helps: - As you lie awake in bed, try to stay perfectly still. Resist the temptation to toss and turn, or to flip the pillows - Try to empty your mind, just picturing someone who is fully asleep. Focus on how profoundly peaceful that sleep is. A brand new knowledge organiser for each year group has been emailed to all students today and put on the website. This will help them with their low stakes quizzes and their class work.
