Five Acres High School

SW Schools Carol Concert

A Christmas carol concert was held at Gloucester Cathedral for the Greenshaw Learning Trust’s South West schools.

On 3 December 2019, a Christmas carol concert was held at Gloucester Cathedral for the Greenshaw Learning Trust’s South West schools. Over 500 Year 7 students from Blaise High School in Henbury, Five Acres High School in the Forest of Dean, Henley Bank High School in Brockworth, Holmleigh Park High School in Tuffley and Yate Academy in Yate sang a range of Christmas carols at Gloucester Cathedral, in front of parents and carers.

In the last two years, Year 7 and 8 choir has been introduced across all of our South West schools as a core part of the curriculum, with all students singing together in a timetabled lesson each week.

Will Smith, CEO of the Greenshaw Learning Trust, commented: “We were delighted that our students had the opportunity to sing in such a prestigious venue. The high quality performances matched the impressive surroundings. The Year 7 choir sessions form an important part of our schools’ curriculum and reinforce important school values. Choir provides time for students to work together and singing is proven to help promote strong mental health and happiness and to alleviate stress and anxiety.”

The carol concert featured performances from individual schools, readings from students, reflections from the headteachers and a grand finale involving all students singing together. The congregation also joined in with traditional festive carols.
